Hollywood Casino pt 2

Ok so didnot do well at the poker table in fact got out kicked so many times it was unreal. Frustrated left the table with $26.

Then feeling defeated but still wanting to play a bit longer I went to a poker machine jammed my $20 in the machine and on the 2nd hand hit quad Aces!!! Back in business!

So I took the $200 I just hit in the poker machine and went to the table game Ultimate Texas Holdem. Played for several hours back and forth hitting hands and losing hands but having a good time. End of the day left with $300 which is a great day considering I was down to $26! Didn’t win big but didn’t lose! I’ll take it!

Hollywood Casino

February 20, 2020 Leave a comment

Been a minute since I’ve played poker so going to visit the local place down the street. On Wednesday’s they have a $300 high hand 8pm to 1am so gonna see what the action looks like.

Feeling slightly nervous because it’s been a while and seeing a lot of local players.

They have moved from a 1/2 NL format to a 1/3 format so the price of poker has definitely gone up!

No open seats with a $60 tournament going on so I’m sitting and nerves continue so maybe a beer will help.

I’ll check in later with anything interesting!

Bluffing: the art of the lie!!!

November 21, 2019 Leave a comment

Bluffing:  Pulling the Wool

Bluffing we all do it. Some pull them off well, some not so well, and we have all pulled one off at the wrong time and got busted. Alright not everyone bluffs, we have all ran into that player before too, plays solid no bluff poker and on occasion we have run into that player, badly. Here I will review different kinds of bluffs and some uses for bluffing and some tips to use when bluffing. Betting or raising with a horrible hand, this one is used in situations where you want to act strong but are actually weak, or are low stacked and want people to go away. Betting out or raising in the earlier low cost rounds to pick up blinds cheap and get others out and project a strong image. Semi bluffs which are used to get others out of a hand however if called have several out to improve to the best hand. Bluffs are useful in a few ways if your holdings are weak and you bluff others out then that was a success. If you semi bluff and it builds a larger pot and you catch to win the hand it is also successful. However if your bluff is called this could also work to your advantage. The players at the table have now seen this bluff and labeled you as a loose bluffing player, change gears and use this to draw those same players into bigger pots later that you win with the best hand. Below I have listed some tips guidelines I use when bluffing or deciding on bluffing:

1. Think about how many people you are trying to bluff, bluffs are best when the hand is down to one or two people.

2. Focus your bluffs on the weaker players at the table

3. Try to imply that you have certain hands and if the bet is called not reraised be sure to follow up on the bluff with a continuation to further imply your hand strength

4. Bluff or semi bluff at a pot where no one bets if you believe it will be successful

5. Do NOT over bluff, bluffing to be bluffing is a quick way to a loss! Your goal is to have a solid table image to your opponents.

I try to keep my bluffs within these parameters and have found bluffing to be a powerful tool when not over utilized. Try these tips for yourself and hopefully bluffing will an effective weapon in your poker arsenal.

Cornhole… check

November 21, 2019 Leave a comment

This past Tuesday night I hit my first ever cornhole!! I’ve only been playing recreationally at the beach and have played a few tournaments never getting out of the first round.

In fact since Terry and I have been playing these weekly tournaments I still can’t get out of the first round. The set up is blind selected partners so I’m usually the weaker link but everyone says I’m getting better every week!

After the tournaments Terry and I usually have our own best of 3 matches and this past Tuesday I got all 4 bags in the hole during a round in our last match! I was so excited I almost knocked him over in a celebration hi 5 haha.

So my first cornhole is now checked off my list so going to keep practicing so I can get as good as a lot of the players we play against even if it’s just get out of round 1!

Atlantic City Getaway

November 20, 2019 Leave a comment

So..the kids went to Disney with their grandparents so Denise and I took a trip to AC. We stayed at Harrah’s and the room rates were great after all their crazy added charges the stay was $100 a night. I paid the extra $ for upgraded rooms but still didn’t get to our room till 6pm…. sigh! We did hang out at the Extreme bar so 2 hours = drunk playing video poker!

Checked out our room and ended up eating at McCormick and Schmidt’s which was awesome in particular for Veterans for Veteran’s day! Great Job to the wait staff. Great, fast service is always appreciated! For those that have served to protect our great nation has an awesome there was a special offering at a wonder price!

After dinner played $1/$2 NL poker. Bought in for $200 but went back and forth for several hours. Best was up $100 so got tired and left..

On my way to our room I passed a game called Top Flush, watched for a bit and had to try it… which was especially different for me as I almost only play poker. The game is about hitting different flushes out of 7 dealt cards and the odds of hitting them. It’s you against the dealer but a good table of players makes it loads of fun especially when you hit. I ended up playing for about 4 hours was up $1700! When my wife came down to go to breakfast I was able to leave with $1200!

After breakfast we took some winnings and went shopping at the outlets always her favorite lol. So the plan was to go to the Extreme bar have a few drinks play some video poker then take a nice nap. You remember naps they were those great moments when your kids were little then they grew out of it and … you’ve been wanting more naps ever since. Well anyway the video poker just made me frustrated and I quickly dropped $200. My wife went up to nap and now on tilt I head to the poker room.

Feeling on tilt not sure the poker room was what I needed especially since I was really buzzed again from the poker bar and no sleep since we got to AC… so I guess I’m on a bender! Played a few hands originally bought in for $200 and after 2 hours was sitting at $180. I was starting to get really tired and playing really loose so decided I’d stay about another hour then find my wife for dinner. Sitting in the big blind I’m dealt pocket jacks and another loose player raises to $35. There is 2 callers then action is to me. I shove my $185 super loosely. The initial raiser calls and I drag in another player. Perfect hands for my jacks as the other players have 10s and AK off respectively. Boom flop is a 3rd jack and my hand holds and I triple up. This not only made up for my $200 loss in the poker bar but gives me a little more money to play with!

I play another revolution before leaving mostly because I’m not a fan of players that hit and run. I head to the cashiers cage head to our room and my wife and I get ready for dinner.

My wife is in the mood for steak so we go back to McCormick & Schmidt’s and again have another great meal.

We decided to have a few drinks so hit my new nemesis the Extreme bar. We had a great time! We played some video poker… no anger lol, watched Monday Night football and hung out as best friends.

Next morning we slept in. She played a few slots hit $100 on Zorro and it was time to head home. We stopped and had breakfast at the Philly Diner which was a great end to an amazing trip!

Poker.. been a minute…

October 23, 2019 Leave a comment

Yes

I’ve still been playing poker! Not as much or as often but still playing. Like most of you , life caught up or I just got frustrated or angry or my 9 to 5 got in the way.. haha!

Yes I still play, taking down my kids candy. I beat my home game most often. I’ve been playing fund raising events and giving the winnings back to the charity… sigh!

It’s no longer like that to me, I’ve played I’ve won, I’ve lost but now my family is first. So I’ll occasionally play at my local brick and mortar or my less occasional home game but most of my time is spent with family and if I’m enjoying our beach place I’m playing corn hole so I’ve decided to return but commenting on both!

You decide what you like but in my spare time, whatever that is… I’m enjoying them both!
